World Aids Day 2011 observed at ADF

Asha Deep Foundation (ADF) regards HIV/AIDS as a really serious problem of genuinely great dimensions. We care about doing and contributing something to the fight going on against it. Our involvement is deep and regular; fortunately there are like-minded organizations, groups, individuals, government agencies and resources which help to support this fight against HIV/AIDS. There is great potential for mutual cooperation, coordination and creation of synergy. Various HIV/AIDS related activities go on at ADF throughout the year and there is support from other ADF projects. Our activities and efforts are not confined to two urban areas of Delhi; we are also actively involved in rural areas of bordering Ghaziabad district of UP.

Among the things that we do or are into in this regard are specifically Targeted Intervention and Community Sensitization. Also we generally encourage flow of factual information in the community related to public health matters and community discourse. There is participation in national AIDS control programme under public private partnership with Delhi government. The rural community is also kept involved through various means and activities including awareness promotion programmes, camps, street plays and community meetings and engagement with the people there.

Our activities include an ADF Rally every year, a regular feature both in urban and rural areas (last year the rural setting was Samsher village in Ghaziabad district lead by 52 local people and encouraged by ADF).

This year the rally in the urban area was a Rally through the different Blocks of Shahid Nagar, it was flagged off by Fr Rajamomey, a friend and elder statesman of ADF, (Flash cards, Banners, Slogans were used), and message reached across ˜ 5000 people in the community.)The special point about the rally was the enthusiasm and the participation of students and teachers of St James School. Public/ Community Meeting at St James School, ADF- 250 -300 people attended, including students, teaches, community members and Police personnel from Shahid Nagar Police Outpost. It was pretty lively and many people, students and teachers participated in the discussions regarding facts about HIV/AIDS, theme and purpose of observing World AIDS Day.

Another Meeting-Discussion was held at Government t School Gamri in Ghonda area of Delhi during our Mobile Health Clinic on World AIDS day at 1st December, it was attended 50 patients, families, and other local people. The theme and purpose of observing World Health Day was highlighted. The fight against HIV/AIDS continues.
