Adolescent Girls Development Programme

The Adolescent Girls Development Project was started in Shahid Nagar of Ghaziabad U.P. in 2008 to empower the adolescent girls, who have lots of potentials to become self reliant and confident enough to bring a change in themselves as well as in the society. Cultural and religious practices are the major barriers in community development activities. For example, women and girls are not allowed to work, which requires public interactions, which is against their belief system. Due to this, their participation is disturbingly low in domestic affairs let alone the community work. Therefore, Adolescent Girls Development Programme was initiated to build the capacity of adolescent girls and empower them to take up the development issues in their own lives as well as in the community. Under the project 2 groups of 40 adolescent girls have been made. These girls conduct meetings with the help of ADF on community issues such as health, sanitation, education, vocational training for youths etc. Girls prepare the action plan to address the issue in the community and ensure the participation of community people as well as all the concerned department to solve the problem. The girls have successfully executed some of the activities to solve the community problems. Adolescent girl groups arc now confident and aware about their responsibility. They are taking initiatives for their own development as well the community. Now they feel that they have a voice to raise their demands. The project is supported by SEED CORN GERMANY.
