Asha Child Development Centre Project

INTRODUCTION:
Asha Child Development Project started in July 2008 to provide holistic support to the children of under privileged community people of Northeast Delhi and bordering area of western U.P. near Delhi. The intervention area is situated on the border of two states. The people living here are migrated from other states and very poor. They are involved in the petty jobs to fulfill the need of family. However their basic requirement of providing education and nutrition is not fulfilled in their meager income. Most of the families have involved their young children in the hazardous work to meet their needs. The area is very badly ignored by the civic authorities. The government authorities have turned a blind eye to provide minimum basic facilities to these citizens. The most affected are the children of these communities. The roads and lanes are very bad shape. Sanitation facility is also not adequate and hygienic for the community people. People here are forced to live in substandard condition. Lack of schools in the localities is the main cause of extremely poor rate of attendance of the children in schools that are situated faraway from the clusters. The community people cannot afford the luxury of sending their children to expensive schools, which are running in the nearby colonies. The Asha Child Development project motivates the children towards education. The children are given education materials and uniforms to increase their interest in education. Since the people give less importance to education due to their economical condition, therefore it is necessary to provide educational support to these children. The nutritional support is also provided to the children of the community for their positive growth at the same time physical activities are also organised. The programme also takes care of health needs of the children. The programme is increasing the confidence of the children through numbers of activities such as outings, sports and cultural activities etc. Children are involved in these activities to develop their confidence and talent. The programme is making them feel a sense of dignity, which helps the child in building his/her personality.
The programme also helps people understand humanity and spiritual & moral values through meetings and cultural programmes. The children are educated about the moral values through literatures and cultural activities. A harmony among the people belong to different religious sect is also established.
The project is supported by Caruna Bal Vikas, Chennai/ Compassion International Ministry.
