 Day Care Centre for physically challenged is precisely for the children who are living a sub- standard life in the community. Mostly children are affected with polio in the area Shahid Nagar, where ADF is working. The main reason for infection of children with polio is negligence of parents and their religious belief. Those who belong to Muslim community avoid administration of polio drops to children in fear of weakness in future. This superstition and myth is fading away after rigorous awareness campaigns carried out by ADF among them. But there are nearly 500 children in the area who are affected with different forms of disability. ADF initiated the project for the Day Care Centre
for physically challenged children, who are not
taken care of by their family and are in need of
protection and care. Day Care Centre for physically challenged runs non-formal educational classes, provides mobility aids to the children and conducts recreational activities for their proper development. The centre provides a healthy & responsive environment for their physical, mental & emotional growth. Children are given educational, nutritional and medical support through this programme. The children are encouraged to participate in sports activities to prove their talents. Presently the centre caters to the needs of 37 physically challenged children. The project is supported by Giving Hands Japan, Caleb Hope Foundation, USA and individual sponsors. |
