| Early Childhood Educational Programme (Gali Pre School) |
| |
Now a days children of educated and established parents avail all facilities to make their future prosper and
secure. In this competitive period every body tries to synchronize their child with education at the age of 2+.
Parents send their children to creche or play way school to prepare them for formal schooling and school life.
These facilities are not available to the
children of the underprivileged community.
Even if they are aware of this system, they
cannot afford to send their wards in this
preparatory school, as it is too expensive. As
a result a big gap is created in the intellectual
of both sets of children in the long run.
Keeping this in view ADF established a
similar preparatory school in the community
so that children become acquainted with the
education as well as the system. The project
Gali pre- school or the lane school is the
community-based programme. The
programme aims to create awareness among
the community about the importance of early
childhood education and development for
children within the age group of 3-6yrs. The
programme is community based in true sense as total community participation is ensured in the programme. Adolescent girls above 15 yrs. from the
communities who had passed at least 8th standard and have interest in teaching are identified and appointed as
instructors and given specific teacher's training. Before appointment instructors go through the training on early
childhood education and development. Apart from that monthly training is organised to build their capacity for
better teaching and early childhood care. This skill helps them to secure a decent living in future as well as
increase their confidence in self. The classes are run in rooms offered by the teachers of the centre. Mother's
groups of children coming to school are formed. Presently there are 60 centres running successfully at Rajiv Nagar, Pappu Colony and Jain Mandir area with the enrollment of 915 children. Each school enrolls a maximum of 15-20 children. The school runs in two shifts between 9.00 AM - 12.00 noon and 1.00P.M.-4.00P.M. Children in gali schools are prepared for admission in government or private schools after they complete the age of 5 years. During this reporting year a total of 178 children were enrolled in formal schools. Development Focus, India is supporting 40 Gali Schools at Pappu colony and Rajiv Nagar, and HDFC Bank, Mumbai, India is supporting 20 Gali Schools at Jain Mandir area.
