On 31st January 2011 we got the appointment to meet our Hon'ble Prime Minister
Dr. Manmohan Singh. It was a golden opportunity for Asha Deep Foundation to raise the issues on
Socially secluded Girl child education.
It was such a pleasurable moment for Asha Deep Foundation to greet the Prime Minister of
India with a flower of bouquet.
Sr.Jothi Chetty, Secretary and Chief Executive and Rev. H.K Chetty, Director Asha Deep Foundation
raised the issues on girl child education and gave all valid points. Sr.Chetty said most of the girl children
are engaged in domestic help since their parents have to go out for their earnings. These girls are
involved in picking rags and they go for rag picking in the morning and come back only by 8 a.m and also
they are responsible for their siblings and household works. There is no opportunity for these children
to continue their education because all the government schools have a morning shifts for girls.
That is why Sr.Chetty suggested that the school should provide co-education on both shifts. So that they
can join and continue their education according to their convenience without any hesitation.
Dr. Manmohan Singh was so kind enough to hear all the issues raised by Sr.Jothi Chetty and he promised
whatever he could do for the betterment for the girl child education.
