| INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIALLY EXCLUDED CHILDREN » |

|
The project inclusive development of the socially excluded children started in June 2009 with the objective to ensure the rights of children under UNCRC. The project is supported by Save The Children, India.
The project intervention area is F block New Seemapuri. It's a slum which is situated at the border of the north east Delhi & UP. The area is an unauthorized slum and a market of waste materials. There are collection of waste papers, plastic, metal and all that is sold at those shops. The people of this area are mostly migrated from the Bangladesh and neighboring states. 90% people are Muslim and Bengali speaking. The area is very dirty and unhygienic as the people are involved in rag picking. The population of the area is around 15000 and household or jhuggies are nearly 1600 and 350 unauthorized plots.
As the survey conducted by the ADF it was observed that only 19% children are going to school and drop out rate is 28%. The main reason for this educational status was lack of awareness of community people as well as lack of educational facility in the area. The health status of the children was also not satisfactory.
The overall objective of project is to improve the status of most socially excluded children in area with their voices heard and recognized institutionally by formal and non-formal structure.
The specific objective of the project is to socially excluded children benefit from the development programmes, policies and schemes of government, donors and NGOs.
TARGET POPULATION:
The main target population of project is children between the age group of 0 to 14 years.
SENSITIZATION OF POLICE PERSONNEL OF NORTHEAST DISTRICT OF DELHI ON JUVENILE JUSTICE ACTS
The vast experience and expert pool of human resources of ADF in the field of Child Care & Protection and JJ
Act, Delhi Police awarded the sensitization of police
personnel of Northeast District of Delhi on
Juvenile Justice Act 2000 and role of Special
Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU) to bring attitudinal
change in police officers, who are dealing with the
children. ADF was designated to conduct the
workshop in two phases started from March 2010.
The workshop was carried out in all the 15 police
stations coming under the jurisdiction of Northeast
District of Delhi. ADF conducted the workshop
with police officers of all ranks including ACP of
Northeast District Delhi. The main objective of the
workshop was to Sensitize the Police Personnel at
Police Station Level in Northeast District Delhi about compassionate dealing with Juveniles in
conflict with law and children in need of Care & Protection. In this process a total of 17 workshops were organised in fifteen police stations as per the defined schedule in the first Phase. A total of 532 police personnel were sensitized in workshops. All the workshops were conducted through state of art power point presentation and modules. Officers were involved in the workshop by discussion on case studies. The workshop gave a reason to the offices to realise the necessity of attitudinal change while dealing with children under J.J. Act. The police personnel shared their experiences and discussed the queries. The problems shared by police personnel during the workshop were further shared with ACP/CAW/NE Mr. Amit Roy in a review meeting. The review meetings were organised every month at Seelampur PS. to discuss the development of workshop and assess the impact of workshop. The police officers took it as a very useful platform to share their experiences as well as obstacles while dealing with children. We acknowledge Ms Suman Nalwa, ACP/Juvennile Justice Unit, Special Police Unit for Women & Children, Nanakpura, New Delhi.
