St. James Convent School for Underprivileged Children

Introduction

St. James Convent School is one of the earliest initiative under the umbrella of Asha Deep Foundation. Founded on a small scale to impart primary education to the aspiring youth of the community, it was indeed a great start. With time, the school has grown in terms of infrastructure, quality education and supporting facilities. Various students have done the school proud by securing admissions for higher studies in reputed universities followed by getting employed in multinational companies. The school, today takes pride in its student strength exceeding 1000 students and pedagogical techniques which are at par with the leading private schools in the capital. The administration monitors the school ensuring the fact that quality is maintained. As per the Right to Education Act, the school focuses on quality elementary education for all.

Aim

To impart quality education to the marginalised youth of the community, make them self-sufficient for the challenges of the future and spread awareness about the importance of education amongst the community

Objectives

  • To provide value based education to the aspiring students so that they can learn and grow into professionals
  • To enhance knowledge and understanding of the students by means of modern pedagogical techniques and extra-curricular activities
  • To upgrade and update the teaching staff continuously, with modern teaching methods to facilitate modern learning
  • To inculcate a sense of leadership and responsibility amongst the students
  • To develop the aptitude and attitude of the students and mould them into responsible citizens
  • To develop students’ personalities according to the dynamic needs of the future.

Activities

  • Various competitions like Essay writing, debate, kite making and GK quiz are organised from time to time to ensure all round development of the students
  • School is divided into four houses - Nehru, Gandhi, Vivekanand and Tagore for various house activities throughout the year
  • Student council formation so that children take equal part in their own development
  • The School celebrates events like Gandhi Jayanti, Annual Day, Christmas, Republic Day, Independence Day & Annual Sports Day with great enthusiasm
  • Students of St. James Convent School participate in leading health campaigns like Stop T.B. & World AIDS Day for spreading awareness.
  • Students are intermittently encouraged for outdoor picnics and excursion trips to increase their knowledge of our cultural heritage
  • Health check-ups are also conducted in association with other NGOs to monitor their health status
  • School Management Committee is formed by selecting few parents to help timely voice out the concerns they face
  • Parent teacher meetings are held on a regular basis to ensure continuous learning
