| INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY |

Asha Deep Foundation organised International Women's Day on 8th March 2010 at project office D-81, Shahid Nagar, Delhi-UP Border, Near Shalimar Garden, Ghaziabad, U.P. On this occasion more than 1500 women and adolescent girls of northeast district Delhi and Ghaziabad district of U.P. A rally was organised from O-Block Seemapuri in which women all the project area participated. The rally was flagged off by Mr. Veer Singh Dhingan, M.L.A. Seemapuri. The rally moved around the Dilshad Garden and Seemapuri finally reaching to the main venue of the celebration. The theme of this year International Women's Day was Care & Protection of Girl Child. Women shouted slogan all the way during the rally to aware the local community people. Pamphlets were also distributed to passers by, residents and shops keepers.
On this occasion Chief Guest Mrs. Sandhya Bajaj, Member, NCPCR, inaugurated the event with Special Guest Rev. Dr. Ju Young Park, President, International Leadership Conference, Mrs. Mamta Walia, T.G. Angels Media Pvt. Ltd., and Mrs. Urmila Mudgal, Ex. Chairperson GDA by lighting the lamp. In this year focus was given on abolition of discrimination in all area of development, protection from sexual, emotional and physical exploitation and their rehabilitation, Education to girl child involved in rag picking, who are unable to get enrolled in the formal school due to their odd time in rag picking.
ADF project staff presented skit on the social binding of women, which compel her diminish her personality and minimize her right to equality. The problems were shown through shackles and finally broke that shackle to free the girl from that problem. It was a very touchy presentation. Apart from that children and adolescent girls of other department presented dance numbers based on women empowerment. A Haryanvi Dance presented by the adolescent girls of IRDP project was very impressive.
Chief Guest Mrs. Bajaj was very impressed to see the enthusiasm of women of the community. She appealed all the women to raise their voice collectively against the discrimination and atrocities on the women. She also congratulated women for 33% Women Reservation Bill passed in Rajya Sabha. She honoured the active women of Mahila Panchayat by presenting them gifts.
Mr. Ju Park also appreciated overwhelmed participation of women in the women. He shared his some of the memories of his life and his country. He said very hard work and determination made him what he is today. He also appealed the women to show same determination to make an equal place in the society and fight against all the misconception of society, which is big obstacle in the development of women as well as girls child.
The programme was very successful. Media from the Delhi and Ghaziabad covered the event. At the end of programme refreshment distributed to all the participants. |
